In the context of globalisation and mounting pressure to shift towards a low-carbon economy, it is imperative for heavy industry groups to proactively restructure energy use models. Recognising this trend, on 10 July 2026, as part of its working programme in France, the delegation of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) led by General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú held a high-level meeting with TotalEnergies in Paris. The meeting reflected Vinachem’s proactive approach to international integration and cooperation with leading industrial groups globally.

Synergising International Resources to Accelerate the Green Transition

The meeting was held both in person and online at TotalEnergies’ headquarters, with a warm welcome from the company’s leadership. On the TotalEnergies side, participants included Mr. Frédéric CHEVALIER – Vice President for External and International Relations, Mr. Xavier Chouan – Senior Regional Strategy Manager for Asia-Pacific & Middle East, and numerous other senior experts and managers.

s on a worldwide scale. The latest financial report shows that by the end of 2025, TotalEnergies posted revenue exceeding USD 201 billion and profits of USD 15.6 billion. The group maintains a workforce of over 100,000 and operates an ecosystem spanning more than 120 countries. Especially to serve its technology transition strategy, TotalEnergies maintains 15 dedicated R&D centres with over 3,500 scientists worldwide.

At the meeting, TotalEnergies’ representatives highly valued Vinachem’s recent achievements and expressed willingness to share experience and technology to support Vinachem’s green transition and rapid, sustainable development strategy.

General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú presented an overview of Vinachem’s scale and production-business capabilities. With a large ecosystem of 33 member units, Vinachem currently plays a core, pioneering role in the development of Vietnam’s entire chemical industry. The Group’s products have met stringent standards to be exported to over 70 countries, maintaining annual export turnover above USD 700 million.

Vinachem’s management capacity has been further demonstrated by its inclusion in the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 at 148th (announced 16 June 2026). In 2025, Vinachem successfully achieved double-digit growth as oriented and expected by the Party, Government, and Ministry of Finance, reaffirming the leading role of state-owned enterprises in this new era of development.

Green Energy – The Answer to Competitiveness

At the meeting, General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú emphasised that for Vinachem, energy transition is not only a commitment to sustainable development, but also a decisive factor for deep international market integration.

The Group’s leadership and member representatives engaged in in-depth, open discussions with TotalEnergies experts on a range of practical topics of mutual interest. In particular, Vinachem raised the prospect of cooperation in research and development of green hydrogen and green ammonia—core materials directly serving the chemical sector’s sustainable development strategy and the Group’s green product chain.

In parallel, Vinachem expressed the desire for extensive exchanges on energy management solutions for industrial complexes and carbon capture and reduction technologies. The application of digital transformation to optimise energy use was also identified as a breakthrough approach to enable tight control and effective reduction of operating costs.

A Vision for Strategic Partnership

The combination of a Vietnamese chemical group and France’s leading energy giant offers significant synergies. General Director Nguyễn Hữu Tú observed that Vietnam is vigorously promoting energy restructuring and industrial development models to align with the global green growth trend. With Vinachem’s in-depth knowledge of the domestic market and TotalEnergies’ technological foundation, management expertise, and resources, the two sides are ideally positioned to build a long-term partnership.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Vinachem’s leadership proposed establishing a regular information exchange mechanism to study specific cooperation frameworks and gradually implement projects in line with strategic orientations. Vinachem affirmed its readiness to become a strategic and reliable partner of TotalEnergies in the Vietnamese market.

The working session between Vinachem and TotalEnergies concluded with high expectations, marking a new step forward in Vinachem’s technological diplomacy. Actively seeking out global-scale, high-knowledge partners is a firm foundation for Vinachem to accelerate integration, contribute directly to the national Net Zero goal, and further consolidate Vinachem’s leading role in the era of green and sustainable industry.
