Asian ethylene margins split on feedstock basis
Asian ethylene margins were mixed during the week ended 5 August, with LPG-based product margins rising and naphtha-based product margins falling, the ICIS margin report showed on Monday.
LPG-based ethylene margins rose 1.1% in northeast Asia to $811/tonne, and 0.6% in southeast Asia to $712/tonne.
LPG feedstock costs for ethylene production fell by $23/tonne in each region. This outweighed declines of $4/tonne and $9/tonne in NE Asia and SE Asia, respectively, for cracker co-product credits.
For naphtha-based product, ethylene margins fell 3.2% in NE Asia to $779/tonne and fell 3.6% in SE Asia to $722/tonne.
Naphtha costs for ethylene production rose $12/tonne in NE Asia, while co-product credits fell $5/tonne.
In SE Asia, naphtha costs held steady, but co-product credit values fell $17/tonne.
Spot prices in each region fell $10/tonne during the week.
