Half a Century Alongside the Fields

On April 19, 1976, as Vietnam had just emerged from years of war and began its reconstruction journey, the first granules of fertilizer produced in the South were not only to nurture crops but also to revive entire fields.

Within this great historical flow, The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC) was born with a simple yet fundamental mission: to ensure the supply of materials for agricultural production, contributing to securing the foundation of the economy—food security.

Half a century has passed. From an enterprise operating in scarcity, SFJC has steadily grown, traversing many phases of the country’s development—from central planning to renovation and integration—to become one of the most reputable fertilizer brands on the market.

Fifty years is not just a milestone in time. It is the journey of people steadfastly committed to the land and their profession; a process of accumulating knowledge, technology, and trust; and a story of a business constantly transforming to adapt, while staying true to its original promise to the fields and farmers.

From Historic Start to Foundation of Trust

Founded in a unique context after national reunification, the company bore a distinct mark from the outset: the first fertilizer producer in Southern Vietnam.

In the early years (1976–1985), amid many shortages and outdated machinery, SFJC maintained stable production and gradually established its initial industrial capacity. Beyond mere supply, this was a time of laying the groundwork for technological innovation—as SFJC pioneered NPK fertilizer production, introducing the first granulated NPK products to the market.

For generations of workers, each ton of product then was not simply a result of labor, but a triumph over production limitations.

It was in this period that a core value took root and endured: maintaining credibility with farmers—not just as a pledge of product quality, but as a responsibility to the land and harvests.

Technological Shifts and Growth Momentum

A true foundation is only proven through challenges. In the wave of economic reforms, SFJC made important advances, laying the groundwork for sustainable development.

In 1986, the Long Thành Superphosphate Plant was built with a capacity of 100,000 tons per year, marking the first step in scale and technology. From there, SFJC gradually mastered production processes to meet growing market demand.

In subsequent years, the manufacturing system continued to be upgraded. The acid production line was invested in, expanding capacity; new plants in Hiệp Phước and Cửu Long were commissioned, initiating a new phase in NPK production with advanced granulation technology.

From its early days, SFJC has built a diverse product ecosystem: from superphosphate and sulfuric acid to NPK, organic fertilizers, foliar fertilizers, and agricultural support products.

Market Expansion and Affirming Position

A further turning point came with equitization in 2010—not only changing the governance model, but also opening new development space.

Since then, SFJC has mobilized resources, enhanced competitiveness, and intensified investment in technology and product quality.

Its journey to “go further” is evident in export activities. SFJC’s products have reached 21 countries and territories, including demanding markets such as Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand.

In the early months of 2026, NPK shipments continued to be exported, extending the supply chain internationally and affirming the company’s resilient direction amid rising competition.

Domestically, a widespread distribution system remains the backbone, ensuring timely and stable delivery to farmers.

From Production Pillar to Green Transformation Driver

Within the ecosystem of Vietnam National Chemical Group, the role of The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC) is seen not just through business metrics, but in its stability and sustainability.

Figures from 2025 reflect a picture of controlled growth, where production efficiency is linked with maintaining employment and income for workers.

More remarkable, however, is the shift in development thinking. From a focus on scale, SFJC is gradually moving towards a model based on quality and sustainability.

“Our path is to enhance value—from technology and product quality to responsibility for the environment and sustainable agriculture.” — Đỗ Văn Tuấn, General Director, The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC)

In line with the “dual transformation” orientation, SFJC is establishing development pillars: technological innovation, environmentally friendly products, and greening the production value chain.

This is not only a strategic move, but a necessary adaptation to rising demands for environmental protection and quality in the fertilizer industry.

Opening a New Growth Cycle with Science and Technology

If the first fifty years were about building an industrial foundation, the next phase is unfolding as a comprehensive growth model upgrade.

The focus is no longer just expansion, but optimizing production, controlling quality, reducing emissions, and increasing scientific content in every product.

Organic and biological fertilizers, along with advances in NPK production technology, are gradually shaping a new direction—toward efficient, environmentally friendly, and more sustainable agriculture.

“Green transformation is not just a trend—it’s imperative. Businesses must change their production mindset and every process, so each product not only nurtures crops but also preserves the land for future generations.” — Đỗ Văn Tuấn, General Director, The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC)

Alongside technology, people and governance remain pivotal. Generational continuity ensures not just operational stability, but also drives innovation in the new context.

The Unbroken Flow of a Brand

Half a century has passed, but the journey of The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC) cannot be measured by tangible metrics alone. The deeper legacy is a resilient current—where every step is tied to the land, the farmer, and the ever-repeating seasons of Vietnamese agriculture.

In the new context, as demands for green, sustainable, and technological development become clearer, SFJC not only faces opportunities for expansion but must also change at a higher level—to improve quality, go further, and head in the right direction.

And perhaps, above all, the journey still begins with the simplest things: fertilizer granules quietly enriching the soil, nurturing every crop season.

In that place, the story of 50 years doesn’t end as a milestone, but continues—as a persistent flow, stretching from past to present and toward a greener, more efficient, and more sustainable future for agriculture.
