Quang Ngai: Ninh Binh Fertiliser Model Increases Rice Yield by 0.5–0.65 Tonnes/ha

The model using the Ninh Binh fertiliser set on summer–autumn 2026 rice in Quang Ngai recorded yields of 7.0–7.15 tonnes/ha, 0.5–0.65 tonnes/ha higher than the control plots. The rice grew uniformly, with strong stems, less lodging, and improved economic efficiency.

Implementing the Model in the Field

In the 2026 summer–autumn crop, the Quang Ngai Agricultural Extension Centre, in coordination with Ninh Binh Phosphate Fertiliser Joint Stock Company (Niferco), implemented the Ninh Binh fertiliser model on 2 hectares in Nghia Hanh and Mo Duc communes.

The model was applied to loamy soils of moderate to good fertility, with some areas showing signs of slight acidity. The purpose was to evaluate fertiliser efficiency and verify how the nutrient regime suited the local soils, season, and farming practices.

According to technical procedures, farmyard manure combined with Ninh Binh fused phosphate was used as a basal dressing. During later stages, Ninh Binh NPK 20-6-6+TE and NPKS 16-5-17+6S+TE were applied as top dressing.

Fertiliser types were timed to meet the rice plant’s nutrient needs from rooting and tillering through heading and yield formation.

Rice Thrives Despite Unfavourable Weather

This summer–autumn, rice production in Quang Ngai faced overcast conditions and prolonged storms at critical times. This affected photosynthesis, dry matter accumulation, and increased pest and disease pressure.

Monitoring the model plots, rice rooted and recovered quickly, tillered uniformly, and maintained consistently green leaves and strong stems, with good resistance to lodging. At heading, the rice was uniform and flowered synchronously.

Compared with fields outside the model, the model rice suffered less from weather stress. Some non-model fields showed weak, lodged plants, flag leaf tip scorch, and more disease.

Farmer Nguyễn Duy Đức of Nghia Hanh commune reported that following the fertilisation protocol made a clear difference. The rice stayed green throughout growth, ripened evenly, and remained sturdy at maturity.

“The model field showed robust, strong plants with less impact from weather. Yield reached about 7.0 tonnes/ha, above the family’s usual 6.5 tonnes/ha,” Mr. Đức shared.

Higher Yields, Improved Economic Results

Final harvest data showed model yields outperformed control fields.

At Nghia Hanh, yield reached 7.15 tonnes/ha, 0.65 tonnes/ha higher. At Mo Duc, yield was about 7.0 tonnes/ha, up by 0.5 tonnes/ha. Thus, the model achieved 7.0–7.15 tonnes/ha, surpassing the control by 0.5–0.65 tonnes/ha.

The summary report also recorded improvements in yield components such as panicle number, filled grain count, and dry matter accumulation.

Economic efficiency rose along with yield. In Nghia Hanh, total direct costs for the model field were some VND 32.18 million/ha, VND 460,000/ha less than outside the model. With a yield of 7.15 tonnes/ha, income reached about VND 45.045 million/ha, and profit was VND 12.865 million/ha.

At Mo Duc, model profit was about VND 11.92 million/ha. On average, model profit exceeded the control by VND 4.095 million/ha.

Fertiliser Efficiency Linked to Application Protocol

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Dương Lộc, Deputy Director of Quang Ngai Agricultural Extension Centre, assessed that the model showed Ninh Binh fused phosphate and NPK provided suitable nutrition for rice under local conditions. The rice grew uniformly, with strong stems, good lodging resistance, and improved economic returns.

She noted the results provide a practical basis for further research, refining fertilisation protocols, and considering adoption in similar production areas.

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Dương Lộc, Deputy Director of the Quang Ngai Agricultural Extension Centre, proposes that Ninh Binh Phosphate Fertiliser Joint Stock Company continue cooperating to roll out the model in other parts of the province.

The Centre also recommends continued research into different application rates to optimise fertiliser use, balancing yield, investment savings, and minimising nutrient surplus.

This approach is a focus for Ninh Binh Phosphate Fertiliser in deploying production models. According to the company, fertiliser effectiveness must be field-tested under the specific soil, crop, and seasonal conditions of each area.

“Through the model, we aim not just to introduce our products, but more importantly, to work with technicians and farmers to validate the effectiveness of a comprehensive nutrition regime right in the field,” said Mr. Phan Như Diễm, company representative.

As a member of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), Ninh Binh Phosphate Fertiliser works with technical agencies, the extension system, and local agriculture to implement crop fertiliser models. Field results provide a foundation for evaluating product effectiveness, refining guidance, and choosing appropriate protocols for each farming context.

Results in Quang Ngai show that fertiliser efficiency depends not only on the product but on how the nutrition regime is designed and implemented.

Choosing the right products, timing, and rates to suit the crop, soil, and season is crucial for maximising yield and investment returns.

Building on these findings, further research on application rates, refining technical guidance, and developing tailored models for each production context will help maximise fertiliser efficiency, save costs, and better meet the needs of agricultural production.
