From Partner to Friend: Vinachem Expands Cooperation with Sri Lanka

On June 19, 2026, at the headquarters of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem), Deputy General Director Nguyễn Văn Luyện and representatives from the Business Planning Department held a working session with a Sri Lankan delegation led by H.E. Poshitha Perera – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to Vietnam.

The Sri Lankan delegation included Mr. Priyanga Dematawa – General Director of DIMO Agribusinesses, Mr. Hemal Athapaththu – Chief Executive Officer of DIMO Agribusinesses, and other senior company representatives.

The meeting focused on exploring cooperation opportunities between Vinachem and Sri Lankan partners in fertilizers, chemicals, agricultural inputs, and industrial products. Previously, the delegation had visited and worked with Ninh Binh Nitrogenous Fertilizer Limited Company, Ninh Binh Phosphate Fertilizer Joint Stock Company, and DAP No. 2 Joint Stock Company – Vinachem, to learn about the Group’s production capabilities, technology, and product ecosystem.

During the session, DIMO Agribusinesses representatives presented an overview of their company – one of Sri Lanka’s leading conglomerates with over 80 years of development, operating in agriculture, chemicals, agricultural mechanization, energy, and industry. DIMO currently owns an extensive business network and a comprehensive agricultural services ecosystem in Sri Lanka.

In addition to fertilizer cooperation, DIMO expressed interest in expanding collaboration with Vinachem in industrial chemicals, water treatment chemicals, tires, batteries, and many other key product groups of the Group. DIMO also proposed researching the possibility of becoming a distributor for Vinachem’s products in the Sri Lankan market, thereby expanding the presence of Vietnamese industrial brands in South Asia.

Notably, the two sides discussed long-term cooperation opportunities in minerals and fertilizer business. DIMO expressed interest in investment cooperation, mining, and value chain development for apatite ore resources, and proposed studying an investment cooperation model in Sri Lanka based on leveraging the country’s phosphate ore resources, with Vinachem participating as a technology and investment partner.

In his remarks, Ambassador Poshitha Perera highly appreciated the cooperation results between businesses from the two countries in recent times, stating: “Vinachem is not just a partner, but has become a friend of Sri Lanka.”
This statement reflects the deepening trust between Sri Lankan partners and Vinachem and opens up broader cooperation prospects for the future.

The working session not only provided further impetus for immediate trade activities but also laid the groundwork for long-term cooperation programs in fertilizers, chemicals, minerals, and supporting industries. It will contribute to promoting substantive, sustainable, and mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
