From 19th to 20th September 2026, a delegation from the State Capital Management Department – Ministry of Finance and Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) visited, worked, and conducted an on-site survey at the construction site of the potash mining and processing project in Nongbok district, Khammouane province, Lao PDR. The visit aimed to assess the actual situation, update progress, and discuss key tasks for the coming period.

The delegation from the State Capital Management Department included Mr. Vũ Hồng Phương – Director General, together with specialists from the department’s divisions.

Representing Vinachem were Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Dũng – Deputy General Director; representatives from the Investment and Construction Department; and representatives of Vilachemsalt.
At the site, the delegation directly surveyed the project area and heard from Vinachem and Vilachemsalt representatives, who reported on the implementation status, current site conditions, ongoing works, and future plans.

Focus on Completing Project Implementation Requirements

The potash mining and processing project in Laos is one of Vinachem’s key projects, with significant resources dedicated to its progress. After receiving approval from the competent authorities to proceed, the Group has worked closely with partners and authorities from both Vietnam and Laos to synchronise work across several fronts.

In recent times, Vinachem’s leadership has held a number of meetings with the Lao Government, ministries, and relevant agencies to report on progress, discuss issues, and propose solutions to overcome difficulties and facilitate timely implementation.

In parallel, the Group is focusing on finalising the necessary project procedures and documents; working with consultants and Lao authorities to complete the Feasibility Study (FS), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), and related documents as required.

Site preparations are also being actively pursued by Vinachem and Vilachemsalt. Stakeholders have surveyed the site, reviewed ground conditions, and prepared the necessary groundwork for land clearance and the next project phases.

Strengthening Coordination to Accelerate Project Progress

Through the field survey, the delegation discussed the project’s progress, current tasks, and matters requiring continued coordination in the future. The direct site assessment provided the delegation with practical information on the project’s status and implementation requirements, supporting oversight, coordination, and advisory work.

In the coming period, Vinachem will continue to work closely with partners and authorities from both Vietnam and Laos, focusing on finalising necessary procedures, preparing the site and related conditions to implement the project as planned, ensuring compliance with the regulations of both countries, with particular attention to progress, quality, safety, and investment efficiency.

The potash mining and processing project in Laos holds great significance in Vinachem’s development strategy, helping to secure a proactive supply of potash for domestic fertiliser production. Advancing the project also serves to realise economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to the special friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between the two nations.
