1. Rationale for the Research

The Company’s rodenticide product FOKEBA 20 CP (active ingredient: Zinc phosphide 20%) was banned by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development under a decision issued on August 28, 2018, and its circulation on the market was terminated one year after the issuance of the decision. This product had previously generated significant revenue and profit for the Company.

After the product was banned, the Company did not have any rodenticide products available on the market to replace it. Under these circumstances, the Company’s research department was required to conduct research in order to promptly develop and launch a replacement rodenticide product.

2. Research and Application Process

  • Research subjects: Rodenticides used indoors and in gardens, and rodenticides used in agricultural fields.
  • Scientific and practical basis for research/application:

For rodenticides used indoors and in gardens, the product must be easy to use and must not lose effectiveness due to rainy weather when applied outdoors in garden areas. Therefore, the Company’s research department chose to study pellet-form rodenticides that would not disintegrate when used outdoors during rain.
For rodenticides used in agricultural fields, the product must be attractive to rodents while maintaining the lowest possible cost. Accordingly, the research department selected a rice-grain–treated formulation for study.

Research content:

For pellet-form rodenticides, additives must be selected that include bait residues preferred by rodents, binders that ensure good cohesion during pellet compression, and certain additives to prevent disintegration when the product is exposed to water.

For rice-grain–treated rodenticides, additives must be selected to enable the active ingredient to penetrate into the rice grains, and the product color must be distinct from ordinary rice grains to avoid confusion during use.

3. Results, Significance, and Effectiveness of the Solution

  • After one year of research, the formulations and technological production processes for two rodenticide forms—pellet form and rice-grain–treated form—were successfully completed and transferred to production in 2022.
  • From 2022 to June 2025, more than 300 tons of products were manufactured and supplied to the market, generating over VND 20 billion in revenue for the Company.
  • The products use more than 90% domestically sourced raw materials, contributing to socio-economic development.
