The Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company and WASI Cooperate for Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Central Highlands
On the afternoon of 15th August in Đắk Lắk, the Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (SFJC) and the Western Highlands Agro-Forestry Scientific and Technical Institute (WASI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focusing on research, trials, and the development of fertiliser solutions and cultivation models suited to coffee, durian, and rice in the Central Highlands.

Present at the ceremony were Mr. Nguyễn Văn Quý, Standing Deputy Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board of SFJC; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Luyện, Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Chemical Group; Mr. Đỗ Văn Tuấn, General Director of SFJC; Mr. Phan Việt Hà, Deputy Director in charge of WASI; Mr. Đào Hữu Hiền, Deputy Director of WASI; and leaders and specialists from both parties.

Bridging Research and Practical Production
In his speech, Mr. Phan Việt Hà, Deputy Director in charge of WASI, stated that the Institute’s strengths lie in research, application, and transfer of agricultural science and technology, while Southern Fertilizer brings experience in fertiliser research, production, and supply. Cooperation between the two sides will help bring research results closer to practical production, particularly in the main crop areas of the Central Highlands.
Mr. Đỗ Văn Tuấn, General Director of the Southern Fertilizer Joint Stock Company, said that collaboration with WASI offers an opportunity for the company to further study crop nutrition requirements and soil conditions in the Central Highlands. The results will allow both parties to refine products, application processes, and technical guidance suited to specific production areas.

The MoU outlines joint research into solutions for coffee, durian, and rice production, focused on efficient fertiliser use, reducing input costs, improving soil quality, and enhancing yields and quality. The cooperation also addresses adaptation to climate change, greenhouse gas reduction, and meeting increasingly stringent market standards.
A key area is the research and trial of fertiliser solutions to restore and maintain soil fertility and support soil-borne pest control, thereby improving the effective use of agricultural inputs and product value.
WASI and Southern Fertilizer will jointly develop a range of products suited to Central Highlands cultivation, combined with smart farming solutions. Models are planned for Đắk Lắk, Gia Lai, and Lâm Đồng, covering coffee, durian, and rice. The scale, number of models, and trial details will be defined in specific research contracts.
From Field Trials to Technology Transfer
Alongside research, the two parties will collaborate on producing guidance materials, organising training, and technical workshops on product use and cultivation methods appropriate for each locality.

These activities target technical staff, enterprises, cooperatives, and producers in Đắk Lắk, Gia Lai, and Lâm Đồng, and will update technical advances for coffee, durian, and rice production focusing on cost savings, emission reduction, and export market requirements.
WASI will assign specialists to coordinate trial design, implementation, training, and evaluation; monitor and assess results; and contribute to finalising fertiliser application processes suited to local soils, crops, and production conditions.

Southern Fertilizer will collaborate on developing, implementing, and monitoring research contracts and product use models; compile materials and technical guidance for sustainable, low-emission farming; and supply fertiliser for research, trials, and demonstration models as agreed.
Research programmes, trials, training, workshops, and seminars will be implemented through specific agreements between the parties.
Laying the Foundation for Long-Term Cooperation
At the event, leaders of Southern Fertilizer and WASI signed the cooperation agreement, formally establishing a framework for collaboration between the two sides for 2026–2035. The partnership may be extended based on the results of implementation and mutual agreement.

Under the agreement, Southern Fertilizer and WASI will establish a joint coordination team to monitor progress, conduct periodic reviews and evaluations, and agree on plans for each phase.

Signing the MoU opens a new avenue for integrating scientific research and fertiliser production, with field trial results forming the basis for further refining products and application processes. The two sides will gradually develop solutions tailored to Central Highlands conditions, enhancing production efficiency and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
