57 Years of Vietnam’s Chemical Industry: Upholding Tradition, Steadily Delivering the 2026–2030 Strategy
19 August 1969 stands as a significant milestone in the development of Vietnam’s chemical industry. Over the past 57 years, generations of staff and workers have contributed to building the sector, gradually mastering technology, enhancing production capacity, and supplying products for agriculture, industry, and daily life.
Along this journey, the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) and its member units have established a production system covering key areas such as fertilisers, basic chemicals, rubber, batteries, detergents, and mineral extraction and processing. Every factory and production line bears the marks of dedication from many generations of workers.
In 2026, the 57th anniversary of the chemical industry coincides with a new milestone for Vinachem. On 6 August 2026, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1503/QĐ-TTg, setting out tasks and basic targets for Vinachem’s development strategy for the 2026–2030 period. These objectives provide the foundation for planning production, business, investment, and development over the next five years.
New Targets for the Five-Year Journey
According to Decision No. 1503/QĐ-TTg, by 2030, Vinachem aims to become a strong industrial group with advanced technology, solid financial capability, and modern management; to play a core role in ensuring national chemical and fertiliser security; and to be among the top 500 enterprises in Southeast Asia by revenue and profit.
Annual business and production targets are set for each year. Over the 2026–2030 period, consolidated revenue is expected to reach VND 399,580 billion, with pre-tax profit of VND 19,312 billion. Consolidated revenue should rise from VND 65,450 billion in 2026 to VND 95,826 billion in 2030. Pre-tax profit is projected to increase from VND 3,248 billion to VND 5,016 billion.
In terms of output, over five years, Vinachem plans to produce 18.698 million tonnes of fertilisers, 88.824 million tyres, 15.950 million kWh of batteries, 1.839 million tonnes of detergents, 9.536 million tonnes of apatite ore, and 1.953 million tonnes of basic chemicals. These targets require clear focus in management, production, investment, and governance both at the parent company and across all member units.
Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Green Transition
In the next five years, Vinachem will further enhance autonomy in raw materials, core technology, labour productivity, and capital efficiency. Product development is oriented towards deep processing, greater value addition, and increased competitiveness.
Priority sectors include basic chemicals, ultra-pure chemicals for food, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and electronics/semiconductors; new-generation fertilisers, pharmaceutical chemicals, technical rubber, energy storage batteries, advanced materials, and clean energy.
Technological innovation, digital transformation, and the green transition are defined as key directions. For chemical production, requirements for safety, environmental protection, and efficient resource use are integral to investment and operations. The strategy also sets goals for promoting a circular economy and achieving net zero emissions.
To enhance research capacity and technological mastery, Vinachem has been tasked with establishing a Vietnamese Chemical Technology Research and Development Centre; strengthening research, application, and transfer of modern technologies; developing digital enterprises; and expanding cooperation with scientific organisations, technology institutions, and domestic and international financial entities.
The Group is also considering the establishment of dedicated chemical industry clusters and industrial parks, meeting demands for infrastructure, safety, environmental standards, and long-term development.
From Targets to Concrete Action
The 2026–2030 strategy outlines objectives, targets, and priority directions. Implementation will be detailed in annual production, business, and investment plans for the Group and its member units.
Total investment from Vinachem’s Development Fund during this period is projected at VND 2,130 billion. Allocation and use of capital must focus on urgent tasks, effective projects, technological innovation, and capacity building.
At member companies, the strategy will be realised through specific actions: improving equipment efficiency, reducing raw material and energy consumption, refining processes, enhancing product quality, developing new products, expanding markets, and applying digital technology to management and production.
Every target achieved, every improved production line, and every new product introduced contributes to the Group’s overall goals. This places clear demands on Vinachem’s workforce of managers, engineers, and workers: to excel in their roles, seek ever more effective methods, and work collectively towards established objectives.
Continuing the Tradition with New Achievements
Fifty-seven years of construction and development have provided Vietnam’s chemical industry with a solid foundation in people, production facilities, management experience, and technological capability. Achievements in each period form the basis for adapting to the economy’s new requirements.
For Vinachem, Decision No. 1503/QĐ-TTg sets out clear tasks for the 2026–2030 phase. From these targets, the Group will implement activities annually, by sector and by unit, focusing resources on production, investment, technology, and products that enhance value.
The 57th anniversary of the chemical industry is an occasion for generations of staff and workers to reflect on the past, appreciate the contributions of their predecessors, and clearly define their responsibilities for the new era.
With this 57-year foundation, Vinachem enters the 2026–2030 phase with specific goals and higher demands. The entire Group is determined to build on tradition, concentrate resources, accelerate innovation, and effectively deliver the tasks set, contributing to a stronger Vietnamese chemical industry and making a tangible contribution to national development.
