Vinachem Meets with Norinchukin Research Institute on Phosphate Fertiliser Supply Chain
On the afternoon of 5 October 2026 in Hanoi, the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) held a meeting with a delegation from the Norinchukin Research Institute (Japan) to discuss the phosphate fertiliser supply chain in Vietnam, raw material supply capability, and prospects for cooperation with the Japanese market.
Attending the meeting on behalf of Vinachem were Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Dũng, Deputy General Director of the Group, and representatives from the Business Planning and Technical Departments. The Norinchukin Research Institute was represented by Mr. Seito Jiro, Mr. Yahagi Tomoki, Mr. Yamada Yukihisa, and Mr. Suzuki Motoomi.

The Norinchukin Research Institute is an affiliate of the Norinchukin Bank – Japan’s central agricultural cooperative bank – and operates in the fields of agricultural research, food supply surveys, and corporate consultancy. As part of a study commissioned by the Japan Fertiliser Economics Research Institute, the Norinchukin Research Institute is surveying the potential for ensuring a stable phosphate fertiliser supply from Vietnam to Japan, with a view to contributing to reserves and security of supply for the Japanese market.Du
ring the meeting, the two sides focused on the current situation and prospects for the phosphate fertiliser supply chain in Vietnam, particularly with respect to DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) and MAP (Monoammonium Phosphate) products. Discussions centred on the state of the fertiliser industry, the ability of Vinachem’s member units to supply raw materials, the prospects for Vietnam to become a source of phosphate fertiliser for Japan, and potential needs and opportunities for cooperation and investment in the future.
Representatives from the Norinchukin Research Institute noted that Japan remains significantly dependent on several countries for phosphate fertiliser raw materials. In this context, research into diversifying supply sources and establishing stable cooperative relationships with potential supplier countries, including Vietnam, is of great importance for Japan’s fertiliser supply security.
Vinachem’s representatives provided information on production capacity, raw material sources, and development orientation in the fertiliser sector. This information will assist the delegation in assessing Vietnam’s potential and capacity to participate in the phosphate fertiliser supply chain for the Japanese market.

At the end of the meeting, the head of the Norinchukin Research Institute delegation explained that the purpose of the visit and information gathering was in response to a mandate from Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Following the visit, the delegation will consolidate the information collected into a report for the government, to serve as a basis for future research and policy proposals for the sector.
With regard to fertilisers, the head of the delegation expressed a desire that the visit would enable Japan to further study the possibility of importing fertiliser products from Vietnam. He conveyed his sincere thanks to Vinachem’s leadership and relevant units for their hospitality and information sharing, and expressed hope that both sides would continue exchanges and promote cooperation in the future.

In his remarks at the meeting, Vinachem’s Deputy General Director, Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Dũng, expressed his gratitude to the head of the delegation and members of the Norinchukin Research Institute for their visit, discussions and interest in Vinachem and the Vietnamese fertiliser sector.
The Deputy General Director expressed hope that, in the near future, Japanese importing enterprises would have more opportunities to work directly with Vinachem and its member units to learn more about their products, production capacity and ability to meet the requirements of the Japanese market. Vinachem stands ready to welcome and engage with Japanese partners interested in importing fertiliser from Vietnam.
He expressed his expectation that this visit would lay the groundwork for both sides to strengthen links and gradually promote specific cooperation opportunities in the fertiliser field, contributing to the expansion of ties between Vietnam and Japan in the coming period.
