Vietnam wants to boost ties with Australia

Vietnam wants and spares no effort to boosting cooperation withAustralia , especially in trade and investment, bringing benefit toboth sides, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

At his meetingwith former Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating in Hanoi on July15, PM Dung expressed his pleasure with developments in bilateralrelations, praising contributions by Paul Keating in his capacity ofAustralia ’s Prime Minister during the 1991-96 period to promotingbilateral cooperation in many areas.

PM Dung asked Paul Keatingto hurry the Australian government into funding Vietnam ’sconstruction of Cao Lanh bridge in the south and supporting the ThangLong royal citadel as UNESCO’s heritage site.

Regardingcooperation between ASEAN and its partners, PM Dung stressed thatVietnam , like other ASEAN countries, always wants to build a communityof peace and development. Vietnam hails new mechanisms in buildingpeace, stability and development in the region, the PM said.

Theformer Australian PM said he wished that Vietnam as ASEAN Chair wouldaccelerate expansion of cooperation among regional countries, especiallythe building of new mechanisms for cooperation between ASEAN andnon-bloc partners, including Australia .

He said Australiancompanies wished to cooperate in producing aluminium and also assistwith construction of a railway for transportation and consumption ofaluminium products./.
