VN, RoK talk investment and trade cooperation

A seminar onopportunities for investment and trade cooperation between Vietnam and the Republicof Korea (RoK) was held in Seoul on June 8.

Addressing theevent, Vietnamese Ambassador Tran Trong Toan said that Vietnam’seconomy has been continuously developing over the past years and the countryhas become an attractive destination for foreign investments.

Vietnamrecorded a growth rate of 5.32 percentdespite the world’s economic crisis. By Dec. 2009, the nation attracted 177.7billion USD in direct foreign investment, said ambassador Toan.

Representativesfrom the central provincesof Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Ngai spoke of their provincial preferentialtreatments and advantages.

According toassessments by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), the KoreaInternational Trade Association (KITA) and the Korea Chamber of Commerce andIndustry (KCCI), Vietnam hasbeen an attractive market for RoK’s investment and trade and RoK businessesconsider Vietnama profitable market with medium and long-term development potentials.

Secretary Generalof the ASEAN-RoK Centre Choi Young-je laid stress on Vietnam’s potentials and bilateral cooperationin economics and trade.

The ASEAN-RoK Centre will play an active role inpromoting cooperation between RoK and Vietnam and between RoK and ASEAN,he said.
